Idioms



A far cry -                              To be a far cry from someone or something means to be                                                       very different from.

Full of beans-                       To be full of beans means to be lively and chirpy.

To let stew in juice-             means to leave someone alone with one’s emotions,                                                            usually   unpleasant ones.

kicked up their heels-         means to do things that one enjoys.

Forty winks-                         means to take a nap

Bird’s eye view-                   means to have a cursory glance or an overall view.

By the skin of our teeth-   by extremely narrow margin; just barely; scarcely.

Climb on the bandwagon-  means to join the crowd in following a popular position                                                       and the above sentence speaks about students following                                                     the footsteps of other while choosing career.

Monkey's uncle-                   express shock, incredulity, or just plain surprise. 

Go whole hog                    to do something with maximum enthusiasm or to leave                                                        no stone upturned in doing something

Feel it in my bones           means to have a premonition of something.

Keep one’s powder dry-      means remain cautious and ready for a possible                                                                     emergency.
